Ok, when I first saw this article headline, I thought it was a joke:

Georgia Teens Raise Money to Hold High School’s First Integrated Prom Ever: ‘Yeah It’s Kind of Embarrassing’

After clicking, I saw today’s date stamped on it. No, it’s not a joke. It’s real, and it makes me mad. I know the South has a history of being racist, and despite all the immigration and diversity I knew it probably would continue to be racist in some areas. However, this is just ridiculous. This school has two proms, which are segregated. White students are not allowed into the prom for black students, and vice versa.

I mean, really…..what year is this again? And where do the multi-racial kids go? What is this teaching the kids? I’m so proud they are taking the initiative to end this horrible tradition, but the school does not seem supportive at all, especially when the prom king and queen are of two different races and they won’t take a photo of them together. GET REAL!

Again, I realize it is Georgia, but this really is just sickening. Sometimes I just wish we could disown the South. Y’all can take your creationist textbooks and racism and shove it. YEEHAW!
